Have you ever heard an old song, smelled something or tasted something that brought a flood of emotions and old memories back to you? For me it's the smell of pine wood buring in a fireplace, no matter where I am or what i'm doing the smell of a fireplace immediatley takes me back to my grandparents home on the lake. My dad was in the service so we moved around alot but one of the greatest places we would go would be my grandparents summer place in Maine. The days would be spent swimming in the lake, diving off the raft, napping on the sand. In the evening we would have fires in the fireplace outside and cook fresh corn and roast marshmellows. There was always alot of people around , aunts , uncles , counsins that would come to see us when we would go home for a visit. At night we would spend hours playing flashlight tag, chase ladybugs or just sit and listen to the adults talk to each other and tell stories. For me these were magical moments and when I think about family this is what I think of. My parents are amazing people and gave me a lifetime of wonderful memories to pass onto my children. Thru them and these memories that I have they taught me how to be a parent.
I was going thur some old pictures and happened across this one of my 10 year old neice when she was much younger. I wonder if the smell of the fresh air and clean linen will give her that feel good giggly feeling of a memory when she gets older?
Please feel free to share a memory or two, I would love to read them.

It's funny you mentioned the fire place. My parents would rent a bungalo. My uncle would get the one next to us. Anyway, they would have a barn fire and we used to take the glass coke bottles and heat them up. We would stretch them into different shapes and go back in the morning for them...Great times I tell ya, great times! Thanks for the memories.
I can barely remember when I was that little...that was so very long ago. I can remember spending a lot of times at my grandparents house, both in Lynbrook and upstate NY. Memories are the one thing that we can never lose, or get rid of. I don't know why anyone one would want to be without them.
Great post Kelly...keep 'em coming.
